Translation Services for Adelaide’s Multilingual Communities

Adelaide is the principal city of South Australia and a service centre for Greater Adelaide and customers across the state. People here commonly request English translations of overseas civil records, academic qualifications, employment evidence, licences and other official documents. ATIS® arranges those translations through a secure online service. A suitably credentialed NAATI-certified translator prepares the work and ATIS® returns the available certified PDF by email.

Current South Australian Government information based on the 2021 Census reports that almost 430,000 South Australians were born overseas and that about 18% of residents spoke a language other than English at home. The 2021 ABS Greater Adelaide QuickStats identify Mandarin, Italian, Vietnamese, Greek and Punjabi as the leading languages used at home other than English. Those figures describe the community. They are not an ATIS® catalogue, and they do not mean a particular household needs a particular document.

NAATI is Australia’s credentialing authority for translators and interpreters. ATIS® is not affiliated with NAATI, Skilled and Business Migration, Home Affairs, Service SA, Adelaide University, Flinders University, South Australian courts or the South Australian Government. A translation does not decide a nomination, visa, licence, admission or court outcome. ATIS® is not a migration adviser.

Adelaide and South Australia service regions

Customers across Greater Adelaide and regional South Australia can upload documents online and receive the available certified PDF by email. ATIS® does not claim a shopfront, staffed branch or in-person counter in these districts.

Adelaide CBD and inner metropolitan area

Secure online ordering is available to customers in the Adelaide CBD, North Adelaide, West Torrens, Campbelltown and nearby inner suburbs. Typical files include civil certificates, academic records, nomination supporting documents and personal papers requested by a receiving authority. You do not need to attend an Adelaide counter to start a quote.

Northern and western Adelaide

Customers in Salisbury, Playford, Port Adelaide Enfield, Charles Sturt and surrounding communities use the same upload process. Documents are submitted digitally. ATIS® does not operate a branch in these areas.

Southern and eastern Adelaide

The same secure digital workflow is available to customers in Marion, Mitcham, Onkaparinga, Burnside, Tea Tree Gully and surrounding communities. Include every page that must be translated and keep colour copies legible. Translator availability still depends on the language pair and document type.

Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Murraylands

Customers in Mount Barker, Murray Bridge, Victor Harbor and surrounding regional communities can upload scans or photographs without travelling to Adelaide. ATIS® does not imply offices or staff in those locations.

Spencer Gulf, Eyre Peninsula and Mid North

Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln and nearby regional customers use the same online workflow. Delivery is by the certified PDF options genuinely offered on this website. Confirm any hard-copy or postal requirements with the receiving organisation before you order.

Limestone Coast and Riverland

Mount Gambier, Berri, Renmark and surrounding communities can submit clear copies online and receive a confirmed quote. ATIS® does not claim identical turnaround times in every location. Regional centres are digitally served, not staffed as branches.

Adelaide and South Australia uses for a NAATI-certified translation

The notes below describe common Adelaide and South Australia request types. They are not a substitute for the current official instructions that apply to your application.

Translation for South Australian 190 and 491 Nomination Documents

ATIS® can translate documents that may form part of a South Australian state-nomination file when the receiving body requires an English translation. Typical files include passports and identity documents, birth certificates, marriage and divorce certificates, name-change documents, academic transcripts and qualifications, skills assessments, professional registrations, employment contracts, reference and experience letters, payslips, superannuation evidence, tax and financial records, and family or dependant documents. These stages are separate: a SkillSelect Expression of Interest; a Registration of Interest, where applicable; an invitation to apply for South Australian nomination; a state-nomination application; and a visa application assessed separately by the Department of Home Affairs. Completing one stage does not guarantee the next. Current Migration SA guidance states that documents used for a state-nomination application must be in English or translated by a qualified translator. That published wording refers to a qualified translator and is not restated here as a universal NAATI-certification rule for every Migration SA file. Confirm the current stream and document checklist before ordering. Subclass 190 may be described as a permanent skilled visa. Subclass 491 is a provisional regional visa, not permanent residency. State nomination is not a visa grant. Applicants must satisfy both South Australian nomination criteria and the applicable Home Affairs requirements. Nomination streams, occupation lists, priority settings and document requirements can change. ATIS® is not a migration adviser and is not a visa specialist. This page does not promise an invitation, nomination or visa result.

South Australian Graduates stream

Migration SA publishes a South Australian Graduates stream for eligible applicants who have studied in the state. Eligibility and supporting-document requirements depend on the applicant’s circumstances, occupation and current program rules. Completing a South Australian qualification does not by itself guarantee eligibility, nomination or permanent residency. Graduates sometimes need translations of earlier overseas qualifications, birth and marriage certificates, employment references, skills assessments, professional registration records, and family or dependant documents. This is not a claim that the Graduates stream is automatically faster or easier.

Regional migration context

Current Home Affairs postcode guidance classifies Adelaide postcodes within the Cities and Major Regional Centres designated-regional category, and other South Australian postcodes within the Regional Centres and Other Regional Areas category. Adelaide and regional South Australia fall within designated regional categories for relevant migration programs. Applicants must still satisfy their visa conditions and the current requirements of their South Australian nomination stream. Locations do not receive identical migration incentives or nomination treatment. This is not a comparison of South Australia with other states, and it is not migration advice.

Overseas Driver Licence Translation for South Australia

A person who becomes a permanent resident of South Australia must obtain a South Australian driver’s licence within 90 days. That rule is expressed in relation to becoming a permanent resident of South Australia. It is not a deadline counted from arrival, and it is not applied to every short-term visitor. A short-term visitor can generally drive the vehicle class permitted by a current overseas licence, subject to the conditions on that licence. If the overseas licence is not in English, the driver needs an English translation or an International Driving Permit and must carry the relevant documents. For a licence transfer, a non-English licence requires an official translation. Current SA guidance says licence translations must be an original document. Photocopies, faxes and certified copies are not acceptable. A translation by a NAATI-approved translator must be stamped and signed, or supplied with a NAATI digital stamp and QR code. Consular translations and specified government translating services are also recognised. ATIS® typically delivers a certified PDF by email. This page does not promise that an emailed PDF without the required stamp or format will be accepted. Ask when you request a quote whether a signed-and-stamped original or another format can be arranged for that job. Transfer and testing requirements depend on the issuing country and current recognition arrangements. South Australia updated recognition rules for licences from certain countries in May 2025. Check the current Service SA transfer pathway for any testing or training requirements that apply to your licence. Those May 2025 changes are not applied here to every overseas licence, and ATIS® does not determine test or training requirements. Confirm the current document, format and identity requirements with Service SA before you drive or order. This is not licensing advice.

Immigration and Home Affairs documents

ATIS® can translate birth certificates, marriage and divorce certificates, police certificates, passports and identity records, name-change documents, family and relationship evidence, employment records, payslips and bank statements, academic qualifications, skills assessments, citizenship documents, and humanitarian or protection-related supporting records. Current Home Affairs skilled-visa guidance states that non-English documents must be translated into English and that a translation completed in Australia should include the translator’s NAATI practitioner number. That wording applies to translations completed in Australia. It is not a claim that every visa category has an identical checklist. Confirm the current checklist for your application. Original-language documents may also need to be supplied. A translation does not determine a visa outcome. ATIS® is not affiliated with Home Affairs. This is not migration advice.

Adelaide University and Flinders University documents

As of 2026, Adelaide University is the current institution formed from the combination of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. Those former names may still appear on older qualifications or legacy records. ATIS® can arrange certified English translations of academic transcripts, degree certificates, diplomas, TAFE and vocational records, graduation certificates, course-completion records, school records, official subject or course outlines, recognition-of-prior-learning documents, employment references used for academic assessment, and professional registration documents. Current Adelaide University guidance says that non-English application documents must be officially translated and submitted with certified copies. That published statement does not establish that every Adelaide University application specifically requires a NAATI-certified translation. Current Flinders University guidance for overseas qualifications says that applicants with non-English documents must provide certified copies of the original documents and full translations certified by an independent accredited translator. Some individual Flinders programs have more specific requirements, including original stamps, signatures or hard-copy translation formats. Those program-specific rules are not generalised here to every Flinders application. Confirm the current course-specific document and certification requirements before ordering. ATIS® is not affiliated with Adelaide University or Flinders University and does not guarantee admission.

Employment, qualifications and skills assessments

Employers, registration bodies and assessing authorities may ask for English versions of employment contracts, reference and experience letters, payslips, superannuation records, tax documents, training certificates, trade qualifications, professional registrations, skills-assessment records, business and financial documents, and medical or vaccination evidence used for employment purposes. Regional South Australian use cases may include ordinary employment and qualification documents connected with manufacturing, resources, agriculture, health, education, construction or hospitality. Occupation lists and priority settings change. This page does not claim that every sector is currently prioritised for state nomination. Check the current Migration SA pathway and the relevant assessing-authority requirements before you order. Translation is not careers, migration or financial advice. The receiving organisation decides what it will accept.

Legal, court and government documents

ATIS® translates court orders, affidavits, statutory declarations, police and criminal records, family-law documents, contracts, evidence and supporting correspondence, government-issued civil records, and medical or expert reports that may be used in South Australian court or government processes. Written document translation is separate from interpreting during a hearing, interview or appointment. ATIS® offers interpreting as a distinct service; availability depends on the language, location, assignment and practitioner. This page does not claim remote or on-site Adelaide court interpreting capability, affiliation with South Australian courts, or admissibility of every translation. Confirm evidentiary and filing requirements with your lawyer, court or receiving body. Translation is not legal advice.

Featured languages for Adelaide

The 2021 ABS Greater Adelaide QuickStats identify Mandarin, Italian, Vietnamese, Greek and Punjabi as the leading languages used at home other than English. Those Census figures describe the community. They do not represent the ATIS® catalogue. Featured pages below follow that community order where ATIS® has a published language page. Mandarin and Cantonese are distinct varieties; both are served through the existing Chinese translation page. Greek and Filipino/Tagalog translations can be requested through Get a Quote where a suitable translator is available. Dari and Pashto are not listed here because a current ATIS® written-translation landing or catalogue entry was not verified.

Frequently asked questions

ATIS® can translate documents that may form part of a South Australian nomination file when the receiving body requires an English translation. A SkillSelect Expression of Interest, a Registration of Interest where applicable, a South Australian nomination application and a Home Affairs visa application are separate stages. Confirm the current checklist for your stream. ATIS® is not a migration adviser and does not promise nomination or a visa grant.

Current Migration SA guidance states that documents used for a state-nomination application must be in English or translated by a qualified translator. That is not rewritten here as a claim that every Migration SA document must be translated by a NAATI-certified translator. Confirm the current document checklist for your application.

Yes. Migration SA publishes a South Australian Graduates stream for eligible applicants who have studied in the state. Eligibility and supporting-document requirements depend on the applicant’s circumstances, occupation and current program rules. Graduating in South Australia does not guarantee nomination or permanent residency.

A person who becomes a permanent resident of South Australia must obtain a South Australian driver’s licence within 90 days. That period is tied to becoming a permanent resident of South Australia, not to arrival. This is not licensing advice.

No. The 90-day transfer requirement applies to a person who becomes a permanent resident of South Australia. A short-term visitor can generally drive the vehicle class permitted by a current overseas licence, subject to the conditions on that licence. Visitor rules differ from the permanent-resident transfer requirement.

Current SA guidance says the translation must be an original document. Photocopies, faxes and certified copies are not acceptable. A NAATI-approved translator’s translation must be stamped and signed, or supplied with a NAATI digital stamp and QR code. Consular translations and specified government translating services are also recognised. ATIS® typically delivers a certified PDF by email. Yes. Adelaide, Whyalla, Mount Gambier and other South Australia customers can upload clear documents through Get a Quote or Book Now, confirm the price and available turnaround, and receive the completed translation as a certified PDF by email. Serving Adelaide, Whyalla, Mount Gambier and communities throughout South Australia through secure online document submission does not require a visit to an Adelaide office.

ATIS® can arrange certified English translations of academic records that applicants may need for an Adelaide University application. Current Adelaide University guidance says that non-English application documents must be officially translated and submitted with certified copies. Requirements can vary by course and application type, so confirm the current document and certification requirements before ordering. As of 2026, Adelaide University is the current institution name. This is not a claim of affiliation or guaranteed admission.

ATIS® can arrange certified English translations of academic records that applicants may need for a Flinders University application. Current Flinders guidance for overseas qualifications says applicants with non-English documents must provide certified copies of the original documents and full translations certified by an independent accredited translator. Some programs have more specific format requirements. Confirm the current course-specific requirements before ordering.

Featured language pages for Adelaide customers follow the leading 2021 Greater Adelaide home languages where ATIS® has a published page: Mandarin and Cantonese via the Chinese page, Italian, Vietnamese and Punjabi, with additional pages for Arabic, Hindi and Nepali. Greek and Filipino/Tagalog can be requested through Get a Quote if that combination is available. Census figures are not an ATIS® catalogue.

No. The receiving organisation decides whether a translation meets its own requirements. This page does not claim automatic acceptance by Migration SA, Home Affairs, Service SA, South Australian courts, Adelaide University or Flinders University. Confirm the current checklist with the organisation that requested the file.
