Documents we translate between Malay and English

These examples are among the Malay and English files clients most often upload. They are common requests, not a closed list. If your document is not named here, send it for a quote.

MyKad and MyKid identity documents

Translate the Malay text printed on MyKad identity cards and MyKid children's identity cards, including names, identification numbers, addresses, birth information, and citizenship, religion and sex entries where shown. Parent or mother details are translated where they appear. MyKid is a children's card and is not treated as MyKad.

Birth, marriage and divorce certificates

Translate Malay birth certificates, marriage certificates and divorce certificates, including names and dates, places of birth or marriage, parent and spouse details, registration information, and official stamps or annotations that are visible on the scan.

Birth certificate translation

Driver licences, passports and visa stamps

Translate Malaysian driver licences, passports, visa labels, visa stamps, and entry or exit stamps, including the identification and travel information shown on the document. ATIS translates the wording you upload; it does not issue, verify or authenticate identity or travel documents.

Driver licence translation

Court orders, police reports and legal documents

Translate court orders, judgments and decisions, affidavits, statutory declarations, contracts and agreements, letters from lawyers, police reports, and supporting legal documents written in Malay or English.

Police-related translation

WhatsApp, Facebook and social-media evidence

Translate WhatsApp conversations, Facebook messages, Messenger screenshots, social-media posts, chat screenshots, captions, dates, usernames and visible interface labels. Visible Malay or English content can be translated while preserving speaker order and relevant screenshot context. Translation does not determine whether a screenshot will be admitted in court.

Academic, personal and business documents

Translate employment letters, educational documents and academic records, financial records, company documents, correspondence, statements, supporting immigration documents, and other personal, legal and commercial material in Malay or English.

NAATI is Australia’s national standards and certifying authority for translators and interpreters. NAATI credentials individual translators. NAATI does not endorse ATIS. Where NAATI certification is requested, the assignment is given to a translator holding the appropriate credential for the required direction. A credential for one direction does not automatically cover the other.

Malay to English

Malay-to-English translation is commonly requested for Australian immigration, courts, education, employment, legal matters and administrative use. Typical source files include MyKad and MyKid details, civil certificates, police reports, academic records, contracts and chat screenshots that need a clear English version.

English to Malay

English-to-Malay translation may be required for Malaysian recipients, legal matters, family documentation, business communication and personal use. Confirm the language direction and certification your receiving party has asked for before you order.

WhatsApp, Facebook and other message screenshots

Family, immigration and legal files often include WhatsApp messages, Facebook conversations and other social-media or chat screenshots. Visible Malay or English wording can be translated while keeping speaker order and the surrounding screenshot context that helps a reader follow the exchange.

Please provide:

  • Complete and legible screenshots
  • Visible timestamps where relevant
  • Clear speaker identification where available
  • Consecutive screenshots in the correct order
  • Any necessary context regarding names or abbreviations

Confidential material is handled through the established ATIS upload and quotation process. Translation of a screenshot does not guarantee that a court or other authority will treat it as admissible evidence.

Malay translation FAQs

Yes. ATIS can translate the visible Malay details on MyKad identity cards and MyKid children's identity cards into English, including identification, address, birth and parent information where those fields appear on the scan. MyKid is a children's identity card and is not the same document as MyKad.

Yes. ATIS provides Malay-to-English and English-to-Malay translation, subject to confirming the appropriate translator and certification direction for the assignment. A credential for one direction does not automatically cover the other.

Yes. WhatsApp conversations, Facebook messages and other chat or social-media screenshots can be translated where the text is complete, readable and supplied in the correct order. Translation of visible wording does not determine whether a screenshot will be accepted as evidence by a court or other authority.

Yes. Court orders, judgments, affidavits, contracts and related legal documents can be quoted for Malay-to-English or English-to-Malay translation. The quote depends on document length, complexity, formatting and the required translation direction.

Formatting is reproduced as closely as practical so names, dates and numbered fields remain easy to compare with the source. Relevant stamps, signatures and seals are identified in the translation. Exact reproduction of every graphic element is not always possible.

No. Receiving organisations set their own requirements. Confirm the certification, language direction and document format they need before you order. ATIS does not guarantee that any authority will accept a translation.
