Urdu and English translation for Australian use

ATIS provides NAATI-certified Urdu-to-English and English-to-Urdu translation through practitioners holding the appropriate credential for the required translation direction. The most common request is Urdu-to-English translation of Pakistani official documents. English-to-Urdu translation is also available where it suits the receiving organisation.

Not every document or receiving organisation requires NAATI certification. Requirements vary by receiving organisation. Customers should confirm the required documents, translation direction and certification standard with the receiving authority before they order. ATIS does not determine visa, citizenship, admission or licence-conversion eligibility.

Documents we commonly translate

The documents below are commonly translated. This is not an exhaustive list, and not every listed document requires NAATI certification. If your document is not shown, select Other Document when requesting a quote.

Identity and NADRA records

  • Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC)
  • National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP)
  • Pakistan Origin Cards (POC)
  • Child Registration Certificates (B-Forms)
  • Family Registration Certificates (FRC)
  • Passports
  • Identity and family-registration extracts

Pakistani identity and NADRA documents

We regularly assess NADRA-issued identity and family records, including Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC), National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), Pakistan Origin Cards (POC), Child Registration Certificates commonly called B-Forms, Family Registration Certificates (FRC), passports and other identity or family-registration extracts where the actual document can be assessed.

NADRA records can contain Urdu, English or bilingual entries. Names may have several defensible English spellings. Where consistency matters, provide the passport spelling or a previous official translation. Upload the front and back of cards, and include every stamp, note, QR area, endorsement and visible registration detail.

CNIC, B-Form and FRC records are different documents and should not be treated as interchangeable. Other family, civil-registration or identity forms are assessed according to the issuing authority and the visible document title.

Birth, marriage and divorce records

Civil-status documents may include birth certificates, Nikah Namas, computerised marriage-registration certificates, divorce certificates, Talaq or dissolution-related records, death certificates and family or civil-registry extracts.

These records may be issued or registered by Secretaries of Union Councils, municipal or local-government authorities, or cantonment and other authorised registration bodies where applicable. Not every Pakistani civil document is issued by a Union Council.

A Nikah Nama records the marriage contract. A computerised marriage-registration certificate is a later registration document. A divorce deed or notice is not the same as a final registration or confirmation record. ATIS translates the visible document. It does not determine whether a marriage, divorce or civil-status event is legally effective.

FIRs, police reports and Police Clearance Certificates

Pakistani police documents commonly include First Information Reports (FIRs), police reports, complaints and applications, Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs), character certificates, investigation documents, statements, notices and supporting correspondence. Stamps, handwritten annotations, diary numbers and registration details should be included in the scan.

Formats and terminology vary between document types and jurisdictions. We assess records issued by or associated with Punjab Police, Sindh Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police (KP/KPK), Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT), Balochistan Police, Gilgit-Baltistan Police (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police (AJK).

An FIR may contain allegations and procedural information rather than findings of guilt. ATIS translates the visible record without interpreting liability, evidence or legal effect. Translation requirements depend on the receiving authority. Not every visa application requires a PCC, FIR or police report. Customers should confirm police-clearance and character-certificate requirements with the authority requesting them, and upload all pages, stamps, annexures, endorsements and legible handwritten entries.

Pakistani driver licences

We can translate Pakistani driver licences, including licences issued by Islamabad Traffic Police in the Islamabad Capital Territory and licences issued by provincial traffic-police authorities, together with visible endorsements and related identity details. Upload both sides and any attached notes.

An Urdu translation does not authorise someone to drive in Australia or guarantee licence conversion. Customers should confirm licence-translation and conversion requirements with the relevant Australian state or territory road authority. See also driver licence translation.

Property, land and revenue records

Pakistani land and property documents may include Fard-e-Malkiat or Fard-e-Malkiyat, record-of-rights or ownership extracts, Jamabandi land-revenue records, sale deeds, conveyance or transfer deeds, title-related certificates, registry documents, mutation or Intiqal records, powers of attorney, lease and tenancy documents, and revenue-authority correspondence. English translations and Romanisations of these titles vary.

Land records may contain specialised revenue terminology, plot identifiers, Khewat, Khatauni or Khasra references, shares, boundaries, stamps and handwritten amendments. Complete scans are needed, including schedules, reverse pages and registration endorsements.

ATIS provides translation, not land-title verification, conveyancing or legal advice. A Fard, Jamabandi or mutation entry is not treated here as conclusive proof of legal ownership. Customers should confirm evidentiary and certification requirements with their lawyer, authority or receiving organisation.

Degrees, diplomas and academic records

We assess Urdu and bilingual academic records issued by Pakistani universities, boards and educational institutions, subject to document legibility, the required translation direction and practitioner availability. Typical records include degrees, diplomas, academic transcripts, detailed marks certificates, result cards, provisional certificates, Matriculation and Intermediate certificates, school and college records, professional or training certificates, and medium-of-instruction or enrolment records where appropriate.

Documents may be issued by institutions such as the University of Karachi, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, the University of Peshawar, the University of Balochistan, Quetta, and other recognised Pakistani universities, boards and educational institutions. ATIS is not affiliated with these institutions and does not endorse qualifications or guarantee admission, recognition or skills-assessment outcomes.

Customers must confirm submission and certification requirements with the university, skills-assessment body or other receiving organisation. Related pages include academic transcript translation, diploma translation and degree certificate translation.

Employment, business, legal and personal documents

We can also assess employment and experience certificates, reference letters, salary records and payslips, business registrations, contracts and agreements, court documents, affidavits and declarations, powers of attorney, medical records and certificates, personal correspondence where suitable, and government or administrative correspondence.

Not all of these documents require NAATI-certified translation. ATIS translates the visible record and does not provide legal, migration, employment, medical or business advice.

Official documents prepared for certified English translation in Australia

Urdu-document accuracy

Urdu uses a Perso-Arabic script. Official records commonly appear in Nastaliq layouts, and some files use Naskh or mixed-script content. Right-to-left text and tables need to be followed from the source page rather than rearranged into an English form.

  • Bilingual Urdu/English documents, and Urdu mixed with Punjabi, regional terminology or English administrative terms, are translated as they appear.
  • Personal and place names can have more than one defensible English spelling. Where a passport, CNIC or earlier official translation is supplied, the translator can use it so names stay consistent.
  • Parent, spouse and family-name formatting follows the source document rather than an assumed Australian order.
  • Urdu and Western numerals, dates and abbreviations are taken from the visible text and described clearly.
  • Official stamps, seals, signatures and handwritten police, local-government or revenue annotations are translated or described where they are legible.
  • Faded copies, carbon copies and low-resolution scans are assessed from the visible, legible content only. Unclear portions may be marked as unreadable rather than guessed.
  • Document structure is preserved where appropriate. Perfect transliteration or acceptance by a receiving organisation is not promised.

Upload every page, both sides of cards and certificates, clear colour scans or photographs, every edge, stamp, seal and endorsement, annexures and schedules, passport spellings of names, and previous official translations where consistency matters.

Apostilles, notarisation and legalisation

ATIS may translate visible apostille certificates, notarial endorsements and the attached Urdu document where that service is available. ATIS does not issue, authenticate, notarise or legalise apostilles, and does not provide legalisation, migration or government-process advice.

Customers should confirm with the receiving authority whether they need the original document, an apostille, a translation, notarisation or another certification step.
